MIRPUR: District and Sessions Judge-cum-District Returning Officer (DRO) Mirpur, Jahangir Ahmad, chaired an important meeting regarding preparations for the general elections 2026.
The meeting resolved to ensure strict implementation of the code of conduct formulated by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission. Participants agreed that comprehensive security arrangements would be made to maintain law and order at polling stations and facilitate voters on polling day.
A detailed review of arrangements involving government employees assigned election duties was also conducted. The meeting decided that all relevant departments would perform their responsibilities through effective coordination and close liaison. It was further clarified that the right to vote would be exercised only on the basis of an original Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), and no voter would be allowed to cast a vote on the strength of any other document.
The participants reviewed various aspects of election preparedness, the overall situation, and measures aimed at making polling-day management more effective and efficient.
Addressing the meeting, DRO Jahangir Ahmad said that holding free, fair, transparent, and peaceful elections was a collective responsibility of all concerned institutions.
