Islamabad:The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has intensified its enforcement campaign against lane discipline violations across the federal capital, taking legal action against more than 5,000 drivers over the past week.
The stepped-up crackdown follows special directives from the Inspector General of Police Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, aimed at strictly enforcing traffic laws, ensuring smooth traffic flow, and preventing road accidents. Alongside the issuance of challan tickets to violators, the ITP Education Wing conducted a large-scale public awareness drive at educational institutions, major thoroughfares, and public spaces, reaching over 100,000 citizens with critical road safety information.
As part of the outreach initiative, the ITP organized an awareness walk stretching from Jinnah Avenue to Express Chowk. Speaking to the media at the conclusion of the walk, CTO Kainat Azhar Khan emphasized that infractions such as lane violations, wrong-way driving, riding motorcycles without helmets, illegal parking, overloading, and using non-standard number plates pose severe threats to public safety.
Khan reiterated that the ITP will maintain its indiscriminate legal action against serious traffic violations to protect the lives and property of citizens. She noted that the ongoing road safety workshops and educational activities are designed to foster a culture of responsible driving, and she appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to make Islamabad a safer, well-organized, and accident-free city.
