Both the government and the opposition repeatedly express their willingness to resolve political differences through dialogue. Unfortunately, there is no credible and neutral person who can bring the two sides together and facilitate meaningful negotiations. Both remain firmly committed to their own positions, making direct talks extremely difficult. MNA Mahmood Khan Achakzai could have been an ideal person to play this important national role. However, after accepting the office of Leader of the Opposition, he has become part of one political camp. As a result, he is no longer viewed as a neutral figure who can enjoy the confidence of both the government and the opposition.
If Achakzai truly wishes to make a positive contribution for Pakistan, he should consider resigning from his current post as Leader of the Opposition and adopting a neutral role. He could then work patiently between the government and the opposition, encouraging both sides to remain at the negotiating table until they reach a mutually acceptable agreement.
