Forced marriage is a serious social issue in some parts of Balochistan, including Turbat and Gwadar. In some families, parents choose a husband or wife for their children without their full consent. They often prefer marriage between relatives, such as cousins, even if their son or daughter does not agree. When young people are not allowed to choose their life partner, they may feel stress, anxiety or depression. Some may leave home or make other harmful decisions. This can also create problems within families.
Parents always want a good future for their children, but they should also listen to their children’s wishes and respect their opinions. A happy marriage should be based on mutual consent, understanding, love and respect. Good communication between parents and children can help build happy families and a better future. I kindly request the authorities to launch awareness programmes to help end forced marriages. I also respectfully request parents to listen to their children’s opinions, respect their choices and support marriages based on mutual consent, understanding, and respect.
