Following the remarkable success of two fundraising concerts featuring world-renowned Sufi maestro Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, ‘Prem Nagar - The Land of Love’ is now all set to write another memorable chapter in Karachi’s cultural and philanthropic history.
The third series of the Prem Nagar charity concert, to be held on July 18 at the DHA Sports Club (Moin Khan Academy), Karachi, is itself unique. But what makes it truly historic is the symbolism behind this remarkable collaboration. It represents the significance of two generations, two musical traditions and one shared humanitarian purpose.
For decades, Abida Parveen’s impactful and spiritually uplifting voice has echoed across continents. Born in Sindh, she carries forward one of South Asia’s richest Sufi traditions. Whenever she performs, the audience experiences something beyond music. Her performances become journeys of spirituality, love, tolerance, compassion and inner peace. Her voice reminds us that humanity comes before every other identity. Her message rises above religion, ethnicity, language, nationality and social status.
Asim Azhar, on the other hand, represents a confident, educated and globally connected young generation that embraces modernity while remaining deeply connected to its cultural roots. His popularity among Gen-Z audiences extends well beyond Pakistan, making him one of the most recognisable contemporary voices in South Asian music. His active participation in the Prem Nagar Charity Concert Series sends a powerful message that today’s youth are ready to support meaningful causes that create positive social change.
In my view, when Abida Parveen’s timeless spirituality meets Asim Azhar’s youthful energy, the result will not simply be an unforgettable concert. It will become a beautiful dialogue between tradition and modernity, between experience and aspiration, between timeless wisdom and youthful optimism.
Music is a universal language that transcends borders, cultures, religions and generations. It has the remarkable ability to heal broken hearts, bridge differences, inspire hope and remind us of our shared humanity. I firmly believe that when music is used not merely for entertainment but for serving humanity, spreading love and supporting those who suffer, it becomes a noble humanitarian mission.
Yet the true beauty of this evening lies beyond the music. Every ticket purchased will directly support the humanitarian projects of Prem Nagar - The Land of Love, an ambitious model welfare township being developed across 150 acres in the deserts of Tharparkar. It is being established as a model community town where compassion translates into practical action and is envisioned as a place where orphaned children receive education, special children receive rehabilitation, elderly citizens find dignity, widows regain hope and persons with disabilities are empowered to lead meaningful lives. Numerous welfare initiatives are already underway, including facilities for special children, an old-age home, an SOS children’s village, nursing and paramedical education, skills development programmes, schools, sports facilities, an IT hub, Thar University and several other community development projects.
However, megaprojects of this scale cannot be sustained by good intentions alone. These initiatives require huge resources, collective responsibility, generous partnerships, and the participation of compassionate individuals and organisations. Instead of relying solely on conventional fundraising, Prem Nagar has chosen a unique path for bringing together music, culture, philanthropy and community engagement on one platform. Our vision is simple: every concert should not only entertain audiences but also transform lives.
