ISLAMABAD: The opposition Wednesday announced to hold protest rallies across the country on August 5, marking the PTI founding chairman and ex-premier Imran Khan’s completion of three years in imprisonment.
A joint parliamentary party meeting of the PTI and its allied parties was held here at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, which was presided over by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan while Leaders of Opposition in the Senate and National Assembly Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri and Mehmood Khan Achakzai respectively were in Balochistan.
The parliamentary party meeting had an in-depth review of the national issues with special focus on the current political situation and alleged hardships of Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi in Adiala jail, Rawalpindi.
The meeting took a detailed look at the ongoing public movement against the “unjust imprisonment” of all political prisoners, including the founding chairman of PTI, and considered the future course of action inside and outside parliament.
The huddle deliberated upon the opposition’s future strategy, parliamentary affairs and various proposals related to the public relations campaign. It was decided to forge closer coordination and consultation in future.
Talking to the media after the meeting, Barrister Gohar said on August 5, the founder of PTI will complete three years of imprisonment and that protest rallies will be held across the country on the occasion. “The party founder is not getting justice from the courts. His health and that of his spouse Bushra Bibi was discussed in the parliamentary party meeting. Tyranny and injustice should end in the country,” he maintained.
About the proposed future course of action, he pointed out that leaders of opposition in the Senate and the National Assembly will be consulted regarding the August 5 programmes.
Members of the National Assembly and Senate attended the meeting, where PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja was also present, among others.
