KARACHI: Sindh Secretary for College Education Nadeemur Rehman Memon on Wednesday ordered the creation of a comprehensive database of all government colleges across the province and directed action against officials responsible for missing equipment, as he reviewed the department’s development, financial and administrative affairs.
The meeting reviewed the procurement of furniture, computers and laboratory equipment for government colleges during the 2021-2025 fiscal years, along with ongoing development schemes, recruitment, financial management and
audit matters.
Officials said Memon directed all government college principals to submit certificates confirming receipt of the supplied equipment and ensure complete verification of furniture, computers and laboratory items. He instructed that the verified records be submitted to the department promptly to ensure transparency and accountability.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the reported non-availability of equipment in some colleges, the secretary ordered notices to be issued to former drawing and disbursing officers and the contractors concerned. He directed that action be taken against those found responsible in accordance with the law.
The meeting also approved the development of a province-wide database containing information on infrastructure, facilities and institutional requirements of government colleges. Memon instructed officials to collect the required data within a specified timeframe to support future development planning.
Reviewing pending audit matters, the secretary directed regional directors to respond to outstanding audit observations, complete internal audits and expedite cases pending before the Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC) and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The meeting also reviewed the recruitment process. Memon instructed regions that had completed scrutiny to immediately proceed with the remaining stages of recruitment to ensure transparent and merit-based appointments.
Concluding the meeting, Memon reaffirmed the department’s commitment to transparency, accountability, merit and financial discipline, directing officers to perform their duties with integrity and professionalism to improve the efficiency and public responsiveness of the College Education Department.
