A World Bank technical team on Wednesday reviewed progress on the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP-1) and the ongoing reform agenda of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), reaffirming its support for the utility’s modernization efforts.
KWSC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui led the corporation’s delegation, while the World Bank team included Manager David Michaud, Task Team Leader Tiziana Smith, Farhan Sami, Sarah, and technical consultants Shahbaz Hassan and Hassan F. Khan. Members of the KWSSIP team also attended the meeting.
The KWSC management presented an overview of the project’s implementation, financial restructuring, revenue generation, infrastructure and operational reforms, and the corporation’s strategic vision, including its 2026-27 annual work plan.
The presentation was followed by discussions on operational performance, fiscal sustainability and compliance with reform-related commitments. According to officials, the World Bank delegation expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved and commended KWSC’s efforts to strengthen governance, project implementation and service delivery.
David Michaud emphasized the importance of sustaining the reform momentum and reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting KWSC in achieving the project’s objectives and improving water and sewerage services for Karachi residents.
CEO Ahmed Ali Siddiqui thanked the World Bank for its continued support and reiterated the corporation’s commitment to accelerating reforms and achieving its long-term organizational goals. Both sides agreed on a joint roadmap to expedite ongoing reform measures and strengthen coordination to improve service delivery outcomes across Karachi.
