CHARSADDA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Revenue Tariq Mahmood Aryani has acknowledged serious issues in the province’s Service Delivery Centres (SDCs) and the land record digitization system, saying that a mechanism introduced to facilitate citizens has unfortunately become a nuisance for people.
Talking to reporters during visits to the SDCs in Charsadda and Tangi, the minister said he had been receiving dozens of complaints regarding Charsadda on a daily basis. He alleged that some SDCs’ staff members were manipulating revenue records and demanding money from citizens in return for making changes.
“We introduced SDCs and the digitization of land records to provide convenience to the people, but regrettably the system has turned into a headache for many people. This mess will be cleaned up,” he vowed.
Charsadda Deputy Commissioner Azmatullah Wazir accompanied the minister during the visit.Aryani said that several complaints had been received regarding the Charsadda SDC, prompting his surprise inspection. He noted that numerous issues existed at the centre and stressed the need for a coordinated strategy to resolve them.
He added that land disputes remained a major problem in Charsadda, with many civil cases eventually escalating into criminal matters. He alleged that certain employees were altering land revenue records and seeking payments from citizens, adding that all stakeholders must work together to curb such practices.
During the visit, the minister also appeared unaware that two officials had been appointed against a single deputy director position in Charsadda. Expressing concern over the situation, he said action would be taken after reviewing the matter.
