PESHAWAR: The Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) on Tuesday staged a protest outside the Peshawar High Court (PHC), expressing concern over the alleged delay in the implementation of decisions made during the chief justice of Pakistan’s Jail Reforms Convention and demanding immediate enforcement of those measures.
The protesters also called for the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and raised slogans in support of an independent judiciary and the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law. Addressing the gathering, ILF Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Ali Zaman said the decisions taken during the Jail Reforms Convention had yet to be implemented, describing the delay as regrettable. He alleged that PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were being kept in solitary confinement.
He also criticised the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments, claiming they had undermined the independence of the judiciary, and demanded that they be repealed.ILF divisional president Barrister Sarwar Shah called for the immediate release of Imran Khan,
urging the authorities to free him without further delay.
Peshawar High Court Bar Association vice-president Arshad Ali questioned the purpose of holding the Jail Reforms Convention if its decisions were not to be implemented. He urged the authorities to ensure prompt and effective enforcement of the recommendations made during the convention.
