MIRPUR: Kashmiris living on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) as well as the rest of the world held special congregations and prayer meetings to pay rich tributes to the Kashmiri martyrs especially 22 valiant sons of the soil for offering the supreme sacrifice of their precious lives on this day (July 13) 95 years ago (1931) in front of Central Jail Srinagar raising mutiny against despotic Dogra Maharajah’s regime and laying the foundation of the Kashmir freedom movement.
People living in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) as well as rest of the world observed the 95th Kashmir Martyrs Day with the renewal of the pledge to continue the grand mission of the Kashmiri martyrs through continuing the freedom struggle, with full vigour, for the achievement of their birth right of self-determination and for the liberation of IIOJ&K from the tyrannical Indian rule.
Special prayers, meetings and symposiums were the hallmark of the day across AJK, IIOJ&K and rest of the world.
It was on this day in 1931 when the Dogra troops had shot dead 22 unarmed Kashmiris in front of the Central Jail Srinagar. A large number of people had gathered outside the jail protesting against the trial of a young man – Abdul Qadeer — for treason inside the prison located in the high security zone.
It was the state holiday in AJK, where people from all walks of life held special prayer meeting, besides staging rallies and seminars to pay rich tributes to Kashmiri martyrs to mark the day.In IIOJ&K, a shutter-down strike was observed against the forced and illegal Indian occupation of bulk part of the Jammu Kashmir state. Kashmiris were denied the visit to the graveyards of the martyrs in occupied Srinagar and other places by the Indian occupational forces.
Special meetings were held at almost all the district and tehsil headquarters of AJK including Mirpur, Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Bagh, Rawalakot, Sudhanoti, Neelam valley, Haveili, Hattiyan and Bhimbher and other towns and cities under the auspices of various social, political and religious Kashmiri outfits, besides the civil society, business community, lawyers and media groups.
In Mirpur, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman National Events Organising Committee Sajid Aslam Chaudhry and other city elite from various segments of civil society strongly condemned the continued reign of state terrorism and violence unleashed by the Indian occupation forces in Srinagar and rest of the occupied Kashmir valley for the last seven years, where hundreds of innocent Kashmiris including the young Kashmiri freedom struggle icon Burhan Muzaffar Wani were martyred since July 8 in 2016 for raising voice for the liberation of their motherland from Indian clutches.Kashmir Press Club, Mirpur-AJK, hosted a special ceremony in coordination with convener of Jammu Kashmir Free Media Association.
