Traders and grinding mill owners in Karachi have agreed to reduce flour prices by Rs8 per kilogram, following an agreement reached with the city administration to pass on lower ex-mill prices to consumers.
Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi chaired a meeting on Tuesday with representatives of the Jodia Bazaar Traders Association and the Karachi Atta Chakki (Grinding Mill) Association to review implementation of the recently announced reduction in flour prices.
Officials said traders and grinding mill owners agreed to implement the earlier decision reached between the Karachi administration and flour mill owners to reduce the ex-mill price of flour by Rs8 per kilogram, providing relief to consumers.
Secretary Jodia Bazaar Traders Association Abdul Qadir Noorani and General Secretary Karachi Atta Chakki Association Anees Shahid assured the commissioner that all varieties of flour, including 2.5 Number Atta (Dhai Number), fine flour and chakki flour, would be sold at the revised prices.
Representatives of major supermarket chains also assured the administration that the reduced prices would be implemented at their retail outlets. Commissioner Naqvi directed all deputy commissioners to strictly monitor implementation of the revised prices in their respective districts. He instructed district administrations to ensure that retailers, wholesalers, grinding mills and supermarkets comply with the notified rates so consumers receive the full benefit of the price reduction. He said the Karachi administration would continue monitoring the market and take action against profiteering while ensuring the availability of flour at the revised prices across the city.
