KARACHI: English Biscuit Manufacturers (EBM) and the Network of Organisations Working for People with Disabilities, Pakistan (NOWPDP) have opened a neuro-inclusive learning facility for children with developmental disabilities in Karachi, a statement said.
The Neuro-Inclusive Discovery Room was inaugurated at the Centre of Excellence for Disability Inclusion (CEDI) in Korangi and was developed with experiential learning support from The Dawood Foundation’s MagnifiScience Centre.
The companies said that the facility is designed for children with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other developmental conditions, providing an environment focused on cognitive, sensory, motor and social development through interactive learning activities.
The statement said that according to the 2023 Population Census, around 3.1 per cent of the country’s population lives with a disability.EBM Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Dr Zeelaf Munir said the facility is aimed at creating more inclusive learning opportunities by combining science, play and therapeutic approaches.
NOWPDP Chief Executive Officer Omair Ahmed said sustainable infrastructure is essential for improving access and inclusion, adding that the facility will provide children with disabilities an environment to support learning and participation.The Discovery Room uses interactive science-based exhibits adapted for therapeutic learning.
