ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will hear today an important legal matter regarding the appropriate forum for hearing pending appeals and bail applications following the recent amendments to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law.
The key issue before the court is whether the amendments to the NAB law apply to cases that are already pending, or only to appeals filed after the amendments came into effect. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and comprising Justice Musarrat Hilali and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan will hear the case.
The federal government has submitted its written reply in the apex court, contending that after Parliament enacted amendments to the NAB law in March 2026, all pending appeals and bail-related matters should be transferred to the Federal Constitutional Court.
According to the amendments, the authority to hear appeals against high court judgements in NAB cases has been vested in the constitutional court. Therefore, the government contended that even pending cases should be transferred and decided under the new legal provisions.
