Eight armed robbers stormed a bungalow in Karachi’s Gadap City area on Monday, held a family hostage and escaped with cash, gold and other valuables worth millions of rupees, prompting Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar to seek an immediate report on the incident.
According to police, the suspects arrived on four motorcycles and entered the house in Kirpalani Villas through the back door before overpowering the occupants at gunpoint. The robbers held the family hostage while searching the house for valuables.
Police said the suspects fled with around 150 tolas of gold, Rs2.5 million in cash and other valuables. Family members were also allegedly assaulted after offering resistance. Police and Crime Scene Unit officials reached the bungalow soon after the robbery and launched an investigation. Forensic experts collected evidence from the scene to help identify the suspects.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed inside and around the house, as well as surveillance footage from nearby streets to trace the suspects’ movements before and after the robbery.
Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the SSP Malir. The minister directed police to use all available resources to ensure the early arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the looted property. He ordered investigators to make full use of CCTV footage, technical evidence and human intelligence to identify everyone involved in the crime.
Lanjar said protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the Sindh government’s top priority and stressed that those responsible must be brought to justice without delay. He also directed investigators to examine all aspects of the case, including the possible involvement of facilitators, and to prepare a comprehensive investigation report and strong charge sheet to ensure effective prosecution of the accused.
