The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has placed its entire operational network on high alert following the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s forecast of monsoon rains in the city, with emergency sewerage arrangements ordered across Karachi on the instructions of Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab.
Chief Executive Officer KWSC Ahmed Ali Siddiqui directed all relevant officers and field staff to complete pre-monsoon preparations to ensure effective drainage and minimise disruption to daily life during the expected rainfall.
Officials said the zonal chief engineers, superintending engineers, executive engineers and field teams have been instructed to remain in their respective areas throughout the rain spell and continuously monitor the sewerage system. The corporation said zonal chief engineers will directly supervise operations, while executive engineers and sewerage field teams will remain on-site to ensure uninterrupted sewerage. Low-lying and flood-prone locations across the city have been identified, with additional staff, machinery and resources assigned to these areas to enable a rapid response in case of water accumulation.
