MIRPUR: Mirpur District Bar Association on Monday held an emergency meeting under the chairmanship of Acting President Shaukat Ali Mughal to press the AJK government for their demands.
Following the meeting, members of the legal fraternity staged a protest rally that passed through various city streets. A large number of female lawyers also joined the rally to express solidarity with the protesting advocates’ demands. Participants chanted slogans in the support of the lawyers’ demands.
Addressing the gathering, bar leaders said that the legal community could not remain silent over the prevailing situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. They stated that the disruption and suspension of internet and banking services for the past 40 days, coupled with obstacles in the supply of essential food items, had caused severe hardship for the public and significantly affected daily life.
Speakers urged the AJK government and relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the situation and adopt effective measures to address the difficulties faced by citizens. They also demanded the immediate release of detained lawyers and other innocent individuals, emphasising the need to safeguard the constitutional and legal rights of the people.
