ALPURI: The Population Welfare Department organised an awareness event to mark the World Population Day in the Shangla district. The event was aimed at raising awareness among people about the challenges posed by rapid population growth, family welfare, maternal and child health, and the importance of maintaining appropriate intervals between births.

Addressing the gathering, District Population Welfare Officer (DPWO), Saeedur Rehman said that the world was currently facing the serious challenge of rapid population growth while available resources continued to diminish. He said that increasing population pressures adversely affected the provision of education, healthcare, employment opportunities, and other basic services.

The officer stressed that maintaining a balance between population growth and available resources was essential to securing a better future for both present and future generations. He emphasised that adequate spacing between births played a crucial role in protecting the health of mothers and children.

Such spacing, he said, contributed to improved physical and mental well-being of mothers while also supporting children’s balanced development, quality education, proper upbringing, and brighter futures.
