MIRPUR (AJK): All is set by authorities and civil society groups in Azad Jammu and Kashmir to observe the 95th Kashmir Martyrs’ Day on Monday (today) with commemorative events across the region, the officials said on Sunday.
The prayer gatherings, seminars, rallies and tribute ceremonies are scheduled at district and tehsil headquarters, including Mirpur, Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Bagh, Rawalakot, Sudhanoti, Neelum Valley, Haveli, Hattiyan and Bala and Bhimber.
The event commemorates 22 Kashmiris martyrdom outside Srinagar’s Central Jail on July 13, 1931, during protests linked to the trial of Abdul Qadeer.The anniversary is regarded by many Kashmiris as a significant event in the ancient political history of the Himalayan state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The AJK government has declared July 13 a public holiday to facilitate public participation in commemorative events.The reports from across the LoC said that the similar observances, including prayer meetings and visits to the graves of those commemorated in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) besides a complete shut down across the occupied valley.
The speakers at the events will reiterate support for a peaceful solution of the Kashmir dispute in line with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
