QUETTA: The Balochistan government has issued a formal notification dividing Quetta City into two separate districts along with a separate notification establishing a new Lasbela Division in a major administrative restructuring of the province, according to media reports.
According to the notification issued on Saturday, the Quetta Division now consists of three districts. The Quetta district has been split into Quetta East and Quetta West. Quetta East comprises Sariab Sadar and City subdivisions while Quetta West comprises the Kuchlak Baruri and Panjpai subdivisions. Mastung district has been separated from Kalat Division and merged into the Quetta Division.
The provincial government has also issued a formal notification establishing Lasbela Division, which will include the districts of Lasbela, Hub and Awaran. Its headquarters will be located in Lasbela District. As part of the restructuring, sub-tehsil Saruna has been separated from Khuzdar District and its two union councils have been placed under two different districts. One union council of sub-tehsil Saruna has been made part of Lasbela District while the other has been added to Hub District.
