WASHINGTON: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi described his visit to the United Nations as busy and productive. Speaking exclusively to Jang/Geo at the UN Headquarters, he confirmed that after concluding his engagements in New York, he would travel to Washington, where he is scheduled to hold two important meetings with US officials. He said he would then return to Pakistan via New York.
Responding to a question about his meeting with Sudan’s interior minister, Naqvi said progress had been made on the issue of deploying United Nations peacekeeping forces in Sudan. He added that his meetings with his Russian and Chinese counterparts were also significant. However, officials described his meeting with Bangladesh’s home minister as particularly lengthy and productive due to the breadth of issues discussed. Naqvi limited his comments by saying the meeting was “useful”.
Asked about his role amid the sensitive regional situation involving Iran and his recent visits to various countries, Naqvi said he was grateful for the opportunity to serve his country and contribute to efforts for peace. Describing the situation in Iran as delicate and concerning, he highlighted the peace initiatives undertaken by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Naqvi described the global police chiefs’ summit as important and beneficial.
