ISLAMABAD: A high-powered inquiry committee, led by NAB Deputy Chairman Sohail Nasir and comprising Grade-21 and equivalent officers, has been constituted to investigate alleged irregularities in the One Constitution Avenue apartment project, located alongside the Jinnah Convention Centre on the Constitution Avenue in Islamabad.
According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had granted in-principle approval for the formation of the inquiry committee. Following consultations with the relevant departments, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Lt-Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed Butt has nominated the committee members.
The committee includes NAB Special Investigation Cell Director General Muhammad Tahir, ISI representative Maj-Gen Shehbaz, Intelligence Bureau representative Ejaz Rasul, FIA Additional Director General (Anti-Corruption Wing) Muhammad Idrees Ahmed, SECP Executive Director Bushra Aslam and FBR Director General Aqeel Ahmed Siddiqui.
The committee has already sought records from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) relating to the allotment of the plot, continuation of construction work despite alleged defaults by the developer and other relevant matters. It is also obtaining records of apartment sales as part of the investigation. After completing its inquiry and identifying those responsible for any irregularities, the committee will submit its findings and recommendations to the prime minister.
