ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Power Division to fulfill all its responsibilities to ensure timely installation and completion of 100MW solar energy project for Gilgit-Baltistan and instructed that complete transparency be maintained throughout the procurement process.
Chairing a review meeting on the solar project for the region on Wednesday, the premier stressed accountability and directed that all payments under the project be made only after third-party validation.
The PM was told that under the 100MW solar energy project for GB, 18MW of rooftop solar systems, including battery storage, would be installed on 499 government buildings by December 2026. During the meeting, the prime minister said that the promotion of solar energy was a key component of the national energy strategy aimed at providing clean, affordable, and sustainable power. He described the 100MW solar project as a gift from the federal government to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Separately, PM Shehbaz Sharif paid rich tribute to Madr-e-Millat Fatima Jinnah on her 59th death anniversary, acknowledging her invaluable contributions to the Pakistan Movement and nation-building. “In his message, the prime minister said the entire nation pays homage to Fatima Jinnah for her remarkable national and political services, describing her role in the struggle for Pakistan’s independence as a source of enduring pride in the country’s history,” PM Office Media Wing, in a press release, quoted the prime minister as saying.
Also, PM Shehbaz Sharif, paying tribute to renowned humanitarian and social figure Abdul Sattar Edhi on his 10th death anniversary, said that personalities like him served as a role model for the younger generation to drive social reform. The prime minister, in his message on the anniversary, said that the late Edhi proved that every individual in the society could play a constructive role in social reform on their own. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed deep concern and sorrow over the crash of a private cargo aircraft in the Arabian Sea. In his statement, he extended his heartfelt sympathies to the families of the plane’s crew members.
The prime minister also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of lives and widespread destruction caused by devastating storms, tornadoes, landslides and heavy rains in China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, as well as Hubei and Gansu provinces. On behalf of the people of Pakistan, the PM extended heartfelt condolences to President Xi Jinping, the government and the people of China, especially the bereaved families.
