8 injured in S Waziristan firing incident

WANA: At least eight persons were injured in an exchange of fire between two rival groups over a land dispute near Tiarza Post in Lower South Waziristan on Wednesday.Police sources said the clash erupted at around 8:50 am after tensions escalated between the two sides over a disputed piece of land, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

The injured from one group were identified as Gul Ahmad, Muhammad Sharif, Niaz Muhammad, and Yar Muhammad. Those wounded from the opposing group were identified as Ziaullah, Khan Muhammad, Habib and Ziauddin.

Sources said Gul Ahmad, Muhammad Sharif, and Khan Muhammad sustained serious injuries and were referred to District Headquarters Hospital Dera Ismail Khan after receiving initial treatment at DHQ Hospital Wana. The remaining injured are undergoing treatment at the DHQ Hospital in Wana.

Police and local sources said the incident was reportedly the result of a longstanding land dispute. Law enforcement personnel rushed to the scene, tightened security in the area to prevent further violence, and launched an investigation.
