LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director of High Performance Aaqib Javed has outlined a detailed roadmap for the revival and strengthening of Pakistan cricket.
During an interview, the former fast bowler spoke at length about his personal journey, the importance of structured player pathways, and the philosophies guiding national team selection under the current administration.
Aaqib commended PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, noting that under his leadership, serious and structural reforms are being introduced to revolutionize cricket development across the country. He emphasized that these steps are not cosmetic but aimed at long-term sustainability and growth.
On the subject of Test cricket selection, Aaqib laid down clear principles. He stressed that the format must revolve around the 20-wicket rule, meaning the bowling unit must have the proven ability to dismiss the opposition twice.
He rejected unnecessary experimentation, describing Test cricket as an unforgiving format where only merit and conditions should dictate selection. He further underlined the importance of role clarity, ensuring every bowler understands their specific responsibilities within the team setup.
