ISLAMABAD: The Federal Constitutional Court, while hearing a dispute concerning recruitment to vacant sanitation worker (khakroob) posts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, directed the provincial government to produce the complete record of recruitment made from 2016 to the present.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi heard the case. The court was informed that even candidates holding master’s degrees (M.A.) had applied for sanitation worker positions. In response, Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi remarked that one of the country’s tragedies is that the lack of employment opportunities has forced even highly educated individuals to seek jobs as sanitation workers.
The judge observed that even if M.A. were recruited as sanitation workers, they would likely not perform sanitation duties. He remarked that such employees often “walk around in neatly pressed clothes with collars,” while the city remains dirty.
He also noted that one of the petitioners was educated at a madrassa. The court subsequently adjourned the hearing until next week while directing the provincial government to produce the requested recruitment record.
