PESHAWAR: Alkhidmat Foundation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched its Summer Internship Programme to provide university and college students with opportunities to serve as volunteers in humanitarian and social welfare initiatives across the province.
The announcement was made during the inaugural ceremony held at Nishtar Hall, Peshawar, where Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, president Prof Dr Hafeezur Rahman, Alkhidmat Foundation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Khalid Waqas, and Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Central, head Abdul Wasi, addressed the participants.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Hafeezur Rahman said that Pakistan’s youth, numbering over 160 million, were the country’s most valuable asset and must be equipped with the skills and values needed to contribute to society.
Khalid Waqas said that more than 30,000 students from across the province had registered online for the Alkhidmat Summer Internship Program. He said the six-month internship would provide practical exposure to Alkhidmat’s humanitarian services, including Orphan Care, Aghosh Homes, Street Children Centres, Thalassemia blood donation campaigns, Out-of-School Children data collection, disaster response, and other welfare projects.
Addressing the ceremony, Abdul Wasi stressed the importance of volunteerism among young people, saying that a healthy and prosperous society is built through collective efforts and selfless service.
A panel discussion titled “The Academic Role of Volunteerism and Social Responsibility in Shaping Gen Z” was also held during the event. The discussion featured Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Peshawar, Prof Dr Sher Zamin Khan; Dean, Qurtuba University Peshawar, Prof Dr Fazal Rahman Qureshi; Prof Dr Zainab Amin of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University; Dean of Management Sciences, City University, Prof. Dr. Naveed Ali; and Special Secretary, Higher Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fazal Hussain. The panel discussed the role of volunteerism in students’ personal development and responsible leadership. The session was moderated by anchor Lehaz Ali.
