PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police faced 294 terrorist attacks during the first six months of the current year, during which 122 policemen embraced martyrdom, according to official statistics released on Tuesday.
The report said that police successfully thwarted 161 of these attacks. It added that more than 341 drone attacks were also foiled.According to the report, the Counter Terrorism Department and police carried out 2,004 intelligence-based operations against terrorists during the first half of the year. These operations resulted in the arrest of 504 terrorists, including 14 high-value commanders, while 182 terrorists were killed in encounters.
The report further stated that Pakistan’s first police Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Division was established in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to counter militant drone threats and strengthen surveillance capabilities.
It said that, as part of the anti-narcotics campaign, police registered 10,197 FIRs, arrested 10,718 suspects, and seized more than 9,100 kilograms of narcotics, including hashish, heroin, opium, and crystal meth, besides over 26,500 litres of liquor.
The report said police also arrested 10,173 proclaimed offenders, while 103 were killed in encounters.Under the National Action Plan, police conducted 2,742 search-and-strike operations, arresting 10,540 suspects.
In addition, 39,106 snap-checking operations resulted in the detention of 15,003 suspicious individuals.The report also highlighted public service initiatives, including the launch of the upgraded Police Facilitation Centre Global Application and the Street Crime Pulse app, enabling citizens to access police services remotely and report crimes through their mobile phones.
It pointed to the performance of the Dispute Resolution Councils (DRCs), which received 2,041 cases during the first six months of 2026. Of these, 1,498 disputes were amicably resolved through mutual consent and mediation, 258 cases were referred to the relevant legal forums for further action, while 285 cases remain under process, reflecting the continued role of DRCs in easing the burden on the formal justice system through community-based conflict resolution.
On the welfare front, the police disposed of 8,769 welfare cases during the first six months of the year and distributed Rs429.2 million in financial assistance to serving personnel, families of martyred officers, widows, children, and other beneficiaries.
Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed praised the force’s performance and directed officers to maintain close coordination with other law enforcement agencies.He reaffirmed that terrorists and criminals would be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law while ensuring public safety and improved policing services across the province.
