Varsities’ role in responsible content creation stressed

LAHORE:Punjab University (PU) Department of Media and Development Communication on Tuesday inaugurated the project ‘Digital Trust and Free Expression in the AI Era: Strengthening Responsible Content Creation in Open Digital Spaces’.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr M Ali, Vice Chancellor of Punjab University, underscored the pivotal role of universities in shaping responsible digital communicators. ‘In an era where truth competes with technology, universities must stand as anchors of integrity and intellectual discipline,’ he said.

Project Lead Dr Ayesha Ashfaq highlighted the growing challenges posed by AI-generated content, synthetic media, and deepfakes, stressing the urgent need for stronger verification skills and responsible AI use among journalists and digital content creators.

Senior journalist SohailWarraichemphasised the need to reclaim journalism’s authority in an era of fragmented information flows, arguing that truth, transparency, and strong editorial judgment are essential to rebuilding public trust in digital spaces.
