An anti-terrorism court has remanded an alleged terrorist arrested for his involvement in the June 27 attack on the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Camp, in the custody of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) for questioning.
Three security persons were martyred, while three terrorists were killed in the attack on the Rangers Camp in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. One of the attackers, said to be an Afghan national, was taken into custody in an injured condition.
The Counter-Terrorism Department’s (CTD) investigating officer produced the held suspect, Usman, before the administrative judge of anti-terrorism courts and sought his physical remand for interrogation.
Accepting the IO’s plea, the judge handed over the suspect to the CTD on physical remand until July 12. According to the FIR of the attack, the alleged terrorist hailed from Jalalabad in Afghanistan. During initial interrogation, he revealed that he, along with his three companions, had arrived in Karachi a week before the attack.
He claimed to be associated with the proscribed Jamaatul Ahrar faction of the TTP, adding that he had received training in Afghanistan. He said Jamaatul Ahrar commanders Umer Qari, Moulvi Ahrar and Abdul Wajid had sent the four terrorists to Pakistan with a plan to carry out attack on the Rangers personnel.
