KARACHI: Banking Mohtasib Pakistan Sirajuddin Aziz met Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi at the Supreme Court on Tuesday, with discussions focusing on banking dispute resolution mechanisms and reforms in the sector.
The meeting followed a recent consultation convened by the chief justice, in his capacity as chairperson of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP), to examine legislative and procedural reforms aimed at improving the efficiency of banking litigation and expanding the use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms.
During the meeting, Aziz briefed the chief justice on the Banking Mohtasib’s performance, stating that the institution disposed of 36,280 complaints in 2025. The figure included the clearance of 13,793 pending cases brought forward from the previous year and 35,130 fresh complaints received during the period.
The Banking Mohtasib said the disposal of complaints resulted in an 8.0 per cent reduction in overall pendency. It also provided relief of Rs1.87 billion to banking customers, while maintaining a free-of-cost complaint resolution mechanism for complainants.
The chief justice appreciated the institution’s efforts in resolving a large number of cases and providing relief to banking customers.Aziz reiterated the Banking Mohtasib’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with relevant institutions and adopting best practices to improve the banking dispute resolution framework.The meeting concluded with an agreement to promote transparent and efficient mechanisms for resolving banking disputes as part of broader justice sector reforms.
