NOWSHERA: Residents of Nowshera have been facing severe hardship after the alleged theft of high-transmission power lines near Amangarh for the second time within a week, resulting in a power outage lasting more than 24 hours.
The prolonged electricity suspension has disrupted daily life across the affected areas. Residents said that homes, mosques and other places of worship have run out of water due to non-functional water pumps, while hospitals have also been affected, creating difficulties for patients and their attendants. Business activity in Nowshera Cantonment and surrounding localities has reportedly been severely disrupted.
The residents have called for a transparent and impartial investigation into the repeated incidents, arguing that the theft of heavy, high-voltage transmission cables is a serious matter. Some residents alleged that the crime could not have been carried out without negligence or possible involvement of certain officials within the relevant department. However, these allegations have not been independently verified, and no official evidence has been presented to support the claims.
The residents also expressed concerns over the performance of the officials responsible for the area’s power infrastructure, saying the recurrence of such incidents points to administrative shortcomings. They urged the government, the relevant ministry, and senior authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry, hold those responsible accountable, and take action against any officials found negligent.
