MIRPUR (AJK): A big peace rally was held in Mirpur on Sunday to condemn the July 5 call given by the banned Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).
The event witnessed significant participation of various segments of civil society, including traders, lawyers, doctors, political and social leaders.The rally commenced from Quaid-e-Azam Stadium and marched through Mian Muhammad Road, Allama Iqbal Road and other city streets before culminating at central Chowk Shaheedan, where it turned into a large public meeting. Participants carried the national flags of Pakistan and AJK and raised slogans in support of Pakistan, Kashmir, and the valiant armed forces of Pakistan and against India and the banned JAAC.
Addressing the rally, speakers including Chaudhry Mahmood, Javed Butt, Abdul Shakoor Mughal, Gulnar Hussain, Nasreen Malik, and others stated that the primary demands of the people of the state about provision of affordable electricity and subsidised flour, have been accepted and the issues have already been addressed by the Governments of Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The speakers argued that the issue of the 12 reserved refugee seats in Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly had never been a public concern and described attempts to politicize the matter.
