MIRPUR (AJK): The High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday issued notices to the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the Kashmir Council, the Special Communications Organization (SCO), and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in a constitutional petition challenging the ongoing suspension of internet services in the region.
The petition was heard by Justice Sardar Ijaz, of the AJK HC who admitted the case for preliminary hearing and directed all respondents to submit detailed replies by July 15. Petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Syed Basit Gilani, argued that the month-long internet shutdown in Azad Jammu and Kashmir is unlawful and violates the fundamental rights of citizens. He contended that the prolonged suspension of internet has caused severe difficulties for the public, students, businesses, and people belonging to various sectors of society.
