LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday directed authorities to ensure the best possible arrangements and strict security measures during Muharram-ul-Haram across the province.
Chairing a review of preparations, the chief minister ordered the formulation of a comprehensive security plan to maintain law and order. In view of the intense heat, she directed officials to make special arrangements for the provision of cold drinking water and beverages for mourners. She instructed the Suthra Punjab programme administration to ensure water sprinkling along the routes of processions and directed that Rescue 1122, field hospitals and Clinics-on-Wheels remain available round the clock on the routes of processions and at congregation venues.
She said QR code panic button facilities are being provided at more than 4,700 Imambargahs across the province. The facility would enable immediate and timely assistance in any emergency situation. “Protection of the life and property of citizens will be ensured at all costs,” she said.
Meanwhile, PMLN President Nawaz Sharif, while approving the final list of candidates for Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, has issued the tickets to 37 candidates.
According to the list, Azeem Bakhsh Chaudhry has been nominated for LA-2 Chakswari, Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed LA-3 Mirpur City, Chaudhry Rukhsar Ahmed LA-4 Khari and Waqar Ahmed Noor LA-5 Barnala. Similarly Muhammad Razaq Chaudhry has been awarded the party ticket for LA-6 Samahni, Chaudhry Tariq Farooq LA-7 Bhimber City, Umair Naeem LA-9 Nakyal and Fateh Mehmoodul Hassan LA-10 Kotli. Muhammad Asif will contest LA-11 Sehnsa, Muhammad Riasat Khan LA-12 Charhoi, Ayaz Ahmed LA-13 Khoi Ratta and Raja Faisal Azad LA-14 Dhirkot. Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas will contest LA-15 Central Bagh, Sardar Mir Akbar Khan LA-16 East Bagh, Chaudhry Mohsin Aziz LA-17 Haveli and Sardar Amir Altaf Khan LA-19 Hajeera. In the Muzaffarabad Division, Syed Iftikhar Ali Gillani will contest LA-29 Muzaffarabad City, Dr Mustafa Bashir Abbasi LA-30 Hattian Dupatta, former AJK PM Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider LA-32 Chakar and Chaudhry Muhammad Rasheed LA-33 Leepa.
The candidates nominated for refugee seats include Nasir Hussain Dar, Chaudhry Muhammad Ismail, Maryam Javed and Zeeshan Ali. Other candidates are PMLN AJK President Shah Ghulam Qadir, Noreen Arif, Raja Muhammad Siddique, Muhammad Naeem Khan, Syed Shaukat Ali Shah, Muhammad Yasin Lone and Muhammad Ahmed Raza Qadri.
