ISLAMABAD: Amid the Pakistan Peoples Party’s reservations about key budget issues, Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday met PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to finalise matters.
The meeting, which took place at the Zardari House, revolved around the upcoming budget, with focus on the PPP’s reservations about key issues and development allocations and projects for Sindh under the 2026-27 fiscal plan.
Bilawal was accompanied by senior PPP leaders Senator Sherry Rehman, Naveed Qamar, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Sindh Minister Jam Khan Shoro.
Sources said the PPP chairman conveyed the party’s reservations about certain development projects and allocations for Sindh.
The discussion also covered taxation measures, with the PPP emphasising the need to broaden the country’s tax base rather than placing additional burden on existing taxpayers.
During the meeting, Sindh Minister Jam Khan Shoro briefed the deputy prime minister on the Sindh government’s development priorities, including ongoing and proposed schemes requiring federal support.
According to sources, Dar assured the PPP leadership that their concerns would be addressed and that consultations would continue on development spending and other budgetary matters before the federal budget was finalised.
It is expected that a final meeting between the top PPP leadership and the government’s financial team would be held on Monday (today), in which final shape would be given to budget-related issues.
