QUETTA: A journalist working for a private television channel has been shot dead by unidentified assailants in Musakhel district of Balochistan, police said on Sunday.
Unknown armed men opened fire on Lala Israfeel near his shop on Saturday night, killing him on the spot. The incident spread fear and panic among the local residents.
Local police rushed to the scene and shifted the body to a hospital. After completion of legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
Meanwhile, the Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) has strongly condemned the killing of Lala Israfeel and demanded a transparent and comprehensive investigation into the incident.
In a joint statement, BUJ President Manzoor Ahmed Rind, General Secretary Shah Hussain Tareen, and other members of the union’s cabinet expressed deep sorrow over the journalist’s murder and denounced the attack in the strongest terms.
The BUJ leadership sympathized with the bereaved family and urged Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove to ensure a thorough investigation from all angles, determine the motives behind the killing, and bring those responsible to justice at the earliest.
