LAHOREThe Punjab Home Department has issued important instructions regarding security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram.
According to spokesperson, foolproof security arrangements will be ensured across the province for imambargahs, majalisvenues and processions. Only approved and licenced processions and gatherings will be allowed to take place, strictly in accordance with the prescribed timings and permissions.
The spokesperson said that special security would be provided at sensitive locations, installations, markets and crowded public areas. Complete inspection of procession routes and surrounding areas will be conducted, while effective traffic management will be ensured and parking will be arranged at least 500 yards away from imambargahs, he added.
The spokesperson further stated that CCTV cameras, walk-through gates, metal detectors, and physical searches will be mandatory while female police officers will be deployed for women participants to ensure both security and a safe environment.
He said religious speakers will not be allowed to deliver any speech against any school of thought. Signal jammers may be used where required on sensitive procession routes. Monitoring of hotels, guest houses, bus stations, and rented houses will be carried out through the Hotel Eye and Travel Eye systems while markets and shops on procession routes will remain closed after inspection, and snipers will also be deployed for security purposes.
Flag marches and visits will be conducted at sensitive locations, while volunteers will be trained to assist security arrangements after clearance from the Special Branch.Station House Officers (SHOs) will obtain written certificates from organisers confirming satisfactory security arrangements. Complete checking of persons, vehicles, and goods will be carried out at all entry and exit points of Punjab. Surveillance using drones will be further strengthened at inter-provincial borders and in riverine areas.
Security plans for Chinese nationals, foreign missions, and consulates will be strictly implemented. Monitoring of individuals listed under the Fourth Schedule and members of proscribed organisations will be intensified. Zero tolerance will be observed for violations of the Loudspeaker Act, and a complete ban on the display of firearms across Punjab will remain in place.
