LAHORE:The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has launched an intensified crackdown against vehicles using fake, cloned and tampered number plates through its AI-based surveillance system.
According to a PSCA spokesperson, more than 170 suspicious and cloned vehicles were identified and traced during the past month through Safe City’s advanced monitoring technology and artificial intelligence-powered cameras.
The spokesperson said the automated alert system detects suspicious or unregistered number plates in real time. Once a vehicle is flagged, alerts are generated and the information is immediately shared with nearby police units for swift action.
The PSCA further stated that it is continuously monitoring blacklisted and crime-linked vehicles through digital surveillance tools to support law enforcement agencies in crime prevention and tracking of suspicious movements.
The authority warned that the use of fake or tampered number plates is a punishable offence and may lead to FIR registration and legal proceedings. Citizens were advised to use only original and officially registered number plates.
