LAHORE:The Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Lahore, Mehran Movahed Far, has said Iran values Pakistan’s role in facilitating a ceasefire process.He expressed gratitude to Pakistan’s civil and military leadership, including Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
The Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iranvisited the Lahore Press Club.During the visit, the Iranian Consul General said he felt pleased to visit the Lahore Press Club, describing Pakistan as a brotherly Islamic country and highlighting what he called deep bilateral relations between the two countries. He said the visit provided him an important opportunity to interact with members of the media in Lahore. He also made a series of remarks regarding regional and international issues, referring to nuclear facilities, past conflicts and military incidents.He expressed concern over attacks on civilians and educational institutions. He said Iran supports a world free of nuclear weapons and referred to ongoing tensions and past negotiations involving the United States.
The Iranian Consul Generalmentioned allegations regarding attacks on Iranian vessels and infrastructure, sanctions on Iran and historical military actions in the region, including references to Iraq, chemical warfare allegations and other conflicts. He also referred to recent developments in Iran–US relations, stating that indirect communication is ongoing through Pakistan. He added that Iran prefers a sustained ceasefire and stated that any future talks with the United States would depend on broader conditions. He also said Iran’s position remains focused on defence and regional stability, and mentioned ongoing diplomatic communication through Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion, Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari welcomed the visit and said that Iran’s role in regional dialogue is important. He also noted that several regional countries, including Turkiye, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, desire an end to tensions.At the conclusion of the visit, the Lahore Press Club presented flowers and a commemorative shield to the Iranian Consul General.
