ALPURI: Heavy rainfall continued for the second consecutive day in Shangla district, while hailstorms were reported in several upper and plain areas, bringing an end to the intense heatwave that had gripped the region for the past several days.

The district headquarters, Alpuri, and its surrounding areas experienced persistent rainfall, while intermittent showers were recorded across various parts of the district. The rain significantly reduced temperatures and created pleasant weather conditions, providing much-needed relief to residents who had been struggling with extreme heat and humidity.

After the rain, areas including Alpuri, Lilownai, Pirkhana, and nearby localities enjoyed cooler weather, while picturesque scenes of mist-covered mountains were witnessed across the region.

However, the accompanying hailstorms caused damage to orchards, flowers, vegetables, and standing crops.According to local farmers, fruit-bearing trees in several areas suffered losses as fruits and blossoms were damaged. Maize fields, vegetable crops, and other seasonal produce were also affected.

Farmers urged the relevant authorities to assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance to affected growers. The rainfall also led to water accumulation in low-lying areas and brought soil and stones onto some link roads. Despite these conditions, traffic remained largely unaffected and continued to flow smoothly.

Meanwhile, water levels in natural springs, streams, and waterfalls increased, raising hopes for communities that had been facing water shortages.According to the Meteorological Department, more rainfall is expected in Shangla and adjoining mountainous regions over the coming days.
