A video of a female police officer alleging misconduct by fellow police officials in connection with the investigation of a kidnapping case went viral on social media, prompting senior police authorities to order an inquiry into the matter.
According to police sources, the controversy was linked to the investigation of FIR No. 91/26, registered at the Eidgah police station. The viral video featured female police officer Rubina Shaheen, who appealed to senior authorities for protection and assistance while alleging inappropriate treatment and irregularities in the handling of the case.
In the video, the officer claimed that a suspect currently on remand was being provided special protocol and facilities at the Napier police station.
Following the circulation of the video, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Azad Khan took immediate notice of the allegations and directed the DIG South to submit a fact-based inquiry report after conducting a thorough investigation.
The DIG South had also sought a detailed report from the SSP Investigation City regarding the complaints and allegations associated with the case. Officials had been instructed to examine all aspects of the investigation, the role of the officers involved, and the claims circulating on social media before submitting a comprehensive report.
According to the police, the case involves a non-Muslim couple who allegedly eloped and got married. Authorities stated that any further action would be taken in accordance with the law and departmental rules after the completion of the inquiry.
The original complainant, Mahesh, had lodged a case alleging that his 25-year-old sister, Anam, had been abducted. The police subsequently registered a case under Section 365-B and launched an investigation. The police said the findings of the inquiry would determine whether any disciplinary or legal action was required against the officials involved.
