The immigration wing of the Federal Investigation Agency offloaded a suspicious passenger bound for Sri Lanka and handed him over to the FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Circle (AHTC) Karachi for further legal action, an FIA spokesperson said on Saturday.
According to the spokesperson, initial questioning revealed that the passenger had previously attempted to reach Europe illegally through the “Dunki” route via Iran in 2019. He was allegedly arrested by the Greek police and deported back to Türkiye.
Officials further stated that the passenger had also been deported from the Maldives in 2022. During an examination of the passenger’s mobile phone, FIA officials reportedly recovered material related to seeking political asylum in Australia.
The passenger allegedly admitted to paying Rs4 million to an Australian citizen, identified as Steven Christopher, for assistance in the matter. The suspect further claimed that the Australian national had visited Pakistan in April 2026, and the two had allegedly reached an agreement regarding a same-sex marriage arrangement.
The FIA said the passenger had been offloaded and shifted to the AHTC Karachi for further investigation and legal proceedings, while inquiries into the case were underway.
