NOWSHERA: Criticizing the rulers over the law and order situation in the province, Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Saturday said that the provincial government had issued a written security advisory through police, urging caution regarding public gatherings and political events.

Talking to media persons here, he said the letter advised avoiding provocative statements in accordance with the Constitution and installing private security and CCTV cameras at residences.

He said such warnings could cause serious mental stress, especially for sensitive individuals, adding that this was not the first time he had received such information.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain said the government should develop the courage to accept criticism and stop issuing threats to journalists. He added that the primary responsibility of journalists is to gather facts and inform the public accurately.

Referring to the law and order situation, he said terrorism control mechanisms appeared to be failing and the provincial government had not been able to maintain peace. He claimed that the situation had become so serious that even terrorist elements were issuing statements in favour of political parties, which he termed alarming.

He also commented on the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment, saying it is being widely debated before its formal introduction, and that a final position would be taken once details are made public.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain reaffirmed that the 18th Constitutional Amendment guarantees provincial autonomy, warning that any attempt to tamper with it would face public resistance.
