LAHORE: Led by captain Fatima Sana, the Pakistan women open their T20 Women World Cup campaign at Edgbaston (England) on June 14 against regional rivals India after a preparatory schedule designed to finalise combinations and sharpen skills for English conditions.

Pakistan qualified for the 2026 tournament on the strength of their ICC T20I ranking as of 20 October 2024. The team’s 2024 World Cup campaign ended with a fourth-place finish in Group A, yielding just one win, but the management has used the intervening period to address weaknesses—particularly in death bowling and fielding—that cost them in tight games.

The immediate build-up includes a tri-series in Ireland (May 28– June 4) featuring West Indies, followed by two official warm-ups in Derby: Sri Lanka on June 6 and Scotland on June 9.

Fatima Sana remains central to Pakistan’s identity as a strike bowler and on-field leader. The management expects her to combine wicket-taking aggression with tactical direction.

The selection focus is on players who can: Rotate strike and build partnerships, Execute selective lofted shots under pressure, Hold composure in the final overs.
