LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said Pakistan is a hub of diverse cultures, languages, traditions and values, adding that cultural diversity is a reflection of national identity and civilisational heritage.

In her special message on the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, the chief minister said cultural diversity also promoted unity, positive values, tolerance and harmony.

Maryam said the purpose of observing the international day was to raise public awareness regarding dialogue and development linked to cultural diversity.

The Punjab CM said individuals who recognised the importance of civilisation, culture and shared heritage deserved appreciation. Punjab’s diverse cultural heritage was recognised around the world and represented the province’s identity globally, she added.

The Punjab Information and Culture Department, the chief minister said, was actively working for the preservation of cultural heritage across the province. She declared the protection of culture and patronage of artisans and creative individuals were among the government’s priorities. “Ensuring access of Punjab’s skilled craftsmen to national and international markets is our commitment,” she said.
