The principal of Government Degree College for Women, Nazimabad, Professor Erum Sultana, has urged the College Education Department to take action against officials of the Anti-Corruption Department, alleging that they have been continuously harassing her and members of the college staff.
In a letter addressed to the Regional Director Colleges Karachi, the principal stated that the allegations of financial irregularities and embezzlement against her pertained to the tenure of former principal Shehla Bashir. According to the letter, during that period, allegations had surfaced against college superintendent Nafees for allegedly taking bribes from students and embezzling funds collected for admit cards and mark sheets.
Prof Sultana maintained that since assuming charge as principal, the college’s financial affairs had been running transparently, but despite that, anti-corruption officials had repeatedly summoned her and members of the staff for questioning.
The letter claimed that non-teaching employees, including a female superintendent, were made to remain in the office from morning till 9pm for interrogation.
She said the college administration had fully cooperated with the inquiry and had also presented affected students before the authorities, but the alleged harassment continued.
Prof Sultana further alleged that another letter received on May 20 contained inappropriate language against the college and its administration, damaging both the institution’s reputation and her personal credibility.
She called upon the College Education Department to initiate strict disciplinary action against the officials concerned to prevent such incidents in future.
No formal response has so far been issued by the College Education Department or the Anti-Corruption Department regarding the matter.
