The UN, the most powerful body tasked with maintaining international peace and security now seems incapable and dysfunctional. Its legitimacy, policies and resolutions are fearlessly violated. Its primary organs, especially the UNSC, remain ineffective. The splits and veto powers of its five permanent members not only undermines the council’s reputation but also discourages it from coming up with effective resolutions to global security problems. The UN has thus failed to act on its primary goals. In order to accomplish durable peace and shared stability, the world needs a reformed and revitalised UN.
