Four people, including two friends, were killed in various traffic accidents in the the city on Friday. According to police, two young motorcyclists were killed near the Defence Library in DHA Phase II after being hit by a speeding vehicle. The bodies were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
The deceased were identified as 20-year-old Hamza, son of Shakeel, and 22-year-old Sameer, son of Iqbal. Police said both friends were residents of Korangi P&T Colony and were on their way to a cattle market when the accident occurred.
Initial investigations revealed that the accident was caused by a trailer truck, the driver of which fled the scene along with the vehicle. Police said efforts were under way to obtain CCTV footage of the incident and identify the driver involved in the fatal hit-and-run incident.
After completing legal formalities, police handed over the bodies to the heirs, who later shifted them to the Chhipa morgue for burial arrangements. In another accident, a 60-year-old pedestrian was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near Baloch Hotel on the Link Road leading to the National Highway in the Steel Town area.
The victim’s body was also shifted to the JPMC. Police said no identification documents were found on the deceased. After legal formalities, the body was moved to the Chhipa morgue for want of identification. Further investigations are under way.
Meanwhile, a teenager was killed and another injured in a traffic accident near Kamran Chowrangi in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. According to rescue officials, the deceased was transported to JPMC.
Rescue sources said the deceased was identified as 18-year-old Umar, son of Saifullah, while the injured boy was identified as 16-year-old Ali, who is currently receiving medical treatment. Police said both teenagers were riding a motorcycle when they were hit by an unidentified vehicle. The driver involved in the incident fled the scene after the collision.
