LAHORE: In a significant development for athletics in Punjab, Vice-President of Asian Athletics Maj Gen (retd) Akram Sahi met Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Fazlur Rehman at the Punjab Stadium on Tuesday to discuss strategies for promoting athletics.

During the meeting, Akram Sahi congratulated Fazlur Rehman on assuming charge as Secretary Sports Punjab and pledged to continue playing an effective role in the development of athletics in the country. The discussions centered on expanding opportunities for athletes and strengthening grassroots structures to identify and nurture fresh talent.

Secretary Sports Punjab Fazlur Rehman announced that the Punjab Sports Department will organize athletics competitions in all districts of the province throughout May. He emphasized that holding events across Punjab will be instrumental in tracing new talent at the grassroots level and ensuring a steady pipeline of athletes for the future.

Rehman further highlighted that the department is taking essential measures to promote sports culture in line with the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab. He pointed to the success of Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem, whose achievements in javelin throw have earned international respect for Pakistan, as an inspiration for the next generation. “Punjab Sports Department is striving hard to produce more world-class athletes by organizing regular sports competitions,” he said.

“The meeting pledged shared commitment between provincial authorities and Asian Athletics leadership to elevate the standard of athletics in Pakistan. As district-level competitions are set to begin, the initiative is expected to provide young athletes with opportunities to showcase their talent, while reinforcing Punjab’s role as a hub for sports development in the country.”
